Wild rose

A common rose, Rosa Canina or Dog Rose, hiding its face shyly from the sun-dappling rays.

Other common names include brier rose, sweet brier and witches' brier. The berries are known as rose hips and used to be collected by schoolchildren in Scotland to make rose-hip syrup.
